Home to aboriginal people for thousands of years, Walpole Island (Bkejwanong Territory) is one of the most diverse wetlands remaining in the Great Lakes Basin, providing excellent recreational fishing, hunting and bird watching. Roam Walpole Island’s miles of sandy beach or fish for small- and large mouth bass, walleye, perch and trophy-size muskie. During the fall hunting season, Walpole’s wetlands attract the trophy canvasback and redhead ducks.
Visitors tour the Island’s Carolinian forests, tall grass prairie and Oak Savannas that support more than 50 of Canada’s rare and endangered plants and animals.
Native artwork is available at gift and craft shops and native culture is celebrated during events including traditional powwows.
